The Leonidas statue

The bronze statue of Leonidas by the sculptor Vasos Falireas stands at the north end of Konstantinou Palaiologou, by the stadium, with “ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ” on its base. It was dedicated by Panos S. Koumantaros; sources give 1968 (inscription) and 1969–70 for its installation and unveiling.

Since John Foden and his team ran from Athens to Sparta in 1982, the Spartathlon has ended at the statue.

TO BE VERIFIEDThe installation and unveiling dates (1969 / 1970) differ between sources.
